Craps Strategy

Two reasons that a winning strategy for Craps is unlikely to exist are that: you don't know for how long the shooter will play, his/her turn can last one roll or can go on for 10, 20 or even more rolls, and each roll of the dice is independent of the last roll, unlike a game like Blackjack where you know what cards have been played and are not available for use until the decks are reshuffled.

Keeping this in mind, the best strategy is likely to start out slowly and bet conservatively (pass line bets with odds are your best bet as they have the smallest house edge). Then if you win, and increase your bankroll, you can decide if you want to bet more aggressively using your winnings.

However some people believe that there are ways to win at Craps using some strategies. Here are a few of them.

  • One risky strategy used by aggressive players is to make Come bets on every roll until all the point numbers are covered. This strategy has the potential to win many bets in a short period of time, assuming the shooter continues to roll without hitting a seven.
  • Another risky strategy (bet on the seven) involves waiting until a shooter has rolled five non-seven rolls, and then betting a one roll bet for the seven. If you lose double your bet the next time the conditions are right.
  • The anything but the seven strategy is based on the observation that the average shooter roles the dice five times before rolling a seven. Wait until a point has been established (This strategy works best if the point is 5, 6 or 8) then wager two units on 5, 6 and 8 and one on the field. Remove all bets after three rolls.
  • One strategy (the five count system) is used in an attempt to find hot players and then bet on them. You start counting when the shooter sets a point number (number one) and continue counting each roll until you reach five. When you reach a count of five you have a hot shooter, start betting on him/her.
  • Regressive betting is a simple Craps strategy (based on the fact that there are ten ways to roll six and eight but only six ways to roll a seven). You wait until the player has made his/her point, then you bet two units on both the six and eight. After one hit, take your winnings (the bet remains on the table). If you get another hit instead of taking your winnings 'press it' (add the winnings to the original bet). If the shooter keeps hitting sixes or eights start taking the winnings in.
